Progress of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in Costa Rica

Resumo: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, approved in September 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly, establishes a transformative vision towards economic, social and environmental sustainability for the 193 member states that signed it and is the reference guide for the work of the international community until the year 2030. This agenda presents a historic opportunity for Latin America and the Caribbean, since it includes high-priority issues for the region, such as the eradication of extreme poverty, the reduction of inequality in all its dimensions, inclusive economic growth with decent work for all, sustainable cities and climate change, among others. This article reflects on the progress of this initiative in Costa Rica, pondering the main results achieved to date and outlining the main challenges that the country faces.

Esta agenda presenta una oportunidad histórica para América Latina y el Caribe, ya que incluye temas altamente prioritarios para la región, como la erradicación de la pobreza extrema, la reducción de la desigualdad en todas sus dimensiones, un crecimiento económico inclusivo con trabajo decente para todos, ciudades sostenibles y cambio climático, entre otros. El presente artículo hace una reflexión sobre el avance de esta iniciativa en Costa Rica, ponderando los principales resultados alcanzados hasta el momento y delineando los principales desafíos que el país enfrenta.A Agenda 2030 para o Desenvolvimento Sustentável, aprovada em setembro de 2015 pela Assembleia Geral das Nações Unidas, estabelece uma visão transformadora para a sustentabilidade econômica, social e ambiental para os 193 Estados-membros que a assinaram e é o guia de referência para o trabalho da comunidade internacional até o ano de 2030. Essa agenda apresenta uma oportunidade histórica para a América Latina e o Caribe, pois inclui temas de alta prioridade para a região, como a erradicação da pobreza extrema, a redução da desigualdade em todas as suas dimensões, o crescimento econômico inclusivo com trabalhar para todos, cidades sustentáveis ​​e mudanças climáticas, entre outros.
