Integrative Review on Abstraction Process in Research on Mathematics Teacher Education

This paper presents results of an integrative review study on the process of abstraction in research in the context of the teacher’s education who teach mathematics. This bibliographic research is guided by the question: how do Brazilian researchers, in their doctoral theses, develop the process of abstraction in the training of teachers who teach mathematics? Its objective is mapping and analyzing the theses published in the time interval from 2010 to 2020, in the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations, which address the process of abstraction in teachers’ education who teach mathematics, in the light of unfolding and developments of Cultural-Historical Theory. Four theses were analyzed and one of them was developed within teachers’ education context. Analysis allowed concluding that in Brazilian Southern Region, there is no thesis on this theme. Finally, findings demonstrate only how the authors describe abstractions in relation with concrete and abstract.
