Approaching socioscientific issues in Biology teaching as a mechanism for strengthening youth protagonism

Resumo: Youth Protagonism can be understood as the ability of adolescents to actively participate in public activities or projects, playing a transforming role in society. This research aimed to analyze the influence of approaching socio-scientific themes in biology teaching, as a mechanism for strengthening youth protagonism. As data collection technique, we used semi-structured interviews with biology teachers and focus group with high school students. The organization of the data was carried out through the analysis of the students' speeches, and interviews with the teachers. Environmental and social issues were selected and discussed in the focus group. It was noted that the approach of socio-scientific aspects, in biology classes, can develop protagonism in basic education students.

Esta investigación tuvo como objetivo analizar la influencia del abordaje de temas sociocientíficos en la enseñanza de la biología, como mecanismo de fortalecimiento del protagonismo juvenil. En la recolección de datos, se realizaron entrevistas con profesores de biología y grupo focal con estudiantes. La organización de los datos se realizó a través del análisis de los discursos de los estudiantes y de entrevistas con los docentes. Los temas ambientales y sociales fueron seleccionados y discutidos en el grupo focal. Se constató que el abordaje de los aspectos sociocientíficos, en las clases de biología, puede desarrollar protagonismo en los estudiantes.O Protagonismo Juvenil é entendido como a capacidade dos adolescentes em participarem, de forma ativa, de atividades ou projetos de caráter público, exercendo papel transformador na sociedade. Esta pesquisa objetivou analisar a influência da abordagem de temáticas sociocientíficas, no ensino de biologia, como mecanismo de fortalecimento do protagonismo juvenil. Na coleta de dados, foram realizadas entrevistas com professores de biologia e grupo focal com estudantes do ensino médio. A organização dos dados foi feita por meio da análise das falas dos alunos, e das entrevistas aplicadas com os professores.  Questões ambientais e sociais foram selecionadas e discutidas no grupo focal.
