Resumo: During medical graduation, the academic realizes that he needs to make decisions about his future again; however, what factors influence and direct these choices? The present work is a training memorial carried out according to the UFSCar medical course project, which seeks to discuss this questioning. A reflective narrative about the events and motivations that shaped a medical student and his decisions, in addition to two non-systematic reviews in the Scielo and Pubmed databases about the views, presented. With this, it allows revisiting and re-signifying academic experiences, relating them to the process of developing their preferences and their current reality. It also presents the views of Brazilian and foreign academics, who, despite having different values, have similar dilemmas. Thus, armed with the author's experiences and reflections, in addition to the perspectives of other undergraduates, the reader can elaborate their answers to the presented question.

O presente trabalho é um memorial de formação, realizado conforme o projeto do curso de medicina da UFSCar, que busca discorrer sobre tal questionamento. Se apresenta como uma narrativa reflexiva acerca dos acontecimentos e motivações que moldaram um acadêmico de medicina e suas decisões, além de duas revisões não sistemáticas nas bases Scielo e Pubmed acerca das visões apresentadas no texto. Com isso, permite revisitar e ressignificar vivências do acadêmico, relacionando-as com o processo de desenvolvimento de suas preferências e sua realidade atual. Apresenta também as visões de estudantes brasileiros e estrangeiros, que, embora apresentem valores diferentes, têm dilemas similares.
