Resumo: In the field of Palliative Care, the social issue as an object of intervention of the Social Service whose expression design for analysis within total pain is social pain. The objective is to provide an overview of the intervention in social pain based on the rights of patients. It is a documentary investigation associated with bibliographic research that uses classical works in the field of palliative care and social work for the scientific treatment of the subject in question. A strategic window was opened to know the possibilities of intervention of the social worker for the palliative patient and his family from the perspective of the new formats. It is concluded that it is necessary to intensify the debate on social pain care strategies, with emphasis on the role of the Social Service in the welcoming process and in access to social rights, considering the Brazilian culture with regard to death and dying.
