Resumo: This was a qualitative, exploratory, descriptive study conducted from January to March 2022 aimed at understanding parental care and maternal perceptions on the development of children born during the COVID-19 pandemic, in the light of the Bioecological Theory of Human Development. Thirty mothers were interviewed. The information was submitted to Content Analysis. Three thematic categories emerged: maternal care for children during the pandemic; socio-affective aspects of children’s interpersonal relationships; mothers’ perceptions of their children’s development. It was revealed that mothers were the main caregivers of children and the changes caused by the pandemic impacted maternal care. Despite the adversities, mothers sought to provide parental care that would develop their children healthily. Given that the health crisis imposed by COVID-19 continues, greater attention to the mother-child dyad is recommended when monitoring maternal and child health, strengthening services that operate as sources of support for women in caring for their children.
