Resumo: | The aim is to identify nurse’s knowledge of basic care regarding the prevention of cervical cancer, to describe thenurses' perception regarding the prevention of this cancer, and to identify the prevention activities performedby Primary Health Care. An exploratory research with a qualitative approach, with 15 working nurses in thePrimary Care Unit of the Valença city, Rio de Janeiro, duringoctober 2014, with structured interviews with theprofessionals. Five categories on prevention, health education, cytopathological examination, HPV vaccine, andcervical cancer prevention planning actions were discussed. It concludes that nurses in the primary care unitshave some knowledge about the preventive measures recommended by the Ministry of Health, and some of theseare carried out in the units, but with certain weaknesses of the system.Keywords: Primary Health Care; Uterine Cervical Neoplasms; Disease Prevention; Nursing. |

Foram discutidas cinco categoriassobre prevenção, educação em saúde, coleta do exame citopatológico, vacina contra HPV e ações do planejamentoda prevenção do câncer de colo de útero.
