Resumo: | OBJECTIVE: To identify the most recent changes made to NCB surface, describing and evaluating the effect of these changes in wounds treatment. METHODS: An integrative literature review was carried out between December 2021 and January 2022, searching for original articles found in Portuguese and English published in the last ten years in BVS, Cochrane Library, Embase and MEDLINE databases through Pubmed. RESULTS: A total of 646 articles were identified through database electronic search. However, after careful analysis 30 studies were selected which achieved inclusion criteria. These studies showed positive results reducing inflammation levels and healing time, decreasing pain, fighting microorganisms, reducing wounds area in addition to demonstrate cell proliferation increase. CONCLUSION: It was noticeable that researchers are increasingly committed to develop innovative compounds that stimulate healing process. In the current study, it was evidenced that pure Bacterial Nanocellulose is an excellent biomaterial for application in injured tissues. However, when Bacterial Nanocellulose has its surface altered through the incorporation of different actives, an optimization of its characteristics is noticed classifying it as a high standard biotechnological resource for wound healing. It is suggested to invest in studies that evaluate other possibilities of alterations in Bacterial Nanocellulose surface since it´s an innovative particle of easy handling and high efficiency in wounds treatments. |
