A Toxoplasmose Neonatal resulta da infecção intra-uterina, variando de assintomática à letal, dependendo da idade fetal e de fatores não conhecidos. Objetivo: Este estudo objetiva conhecer o perfil epidemiológico dos indivíduos com Toxoplasmose Congênita residentes no Distrito Federal – Brasil, período 2001-2010. Material e método: Trata-se de um estudo descritivo, de abordagem quantitativa que visou conhecer o perfil dos neonatos com Toxoplasmose Congênita no DF. Resultados e Discussão: Foram identificados 874 casos confirmados por Toxoplasmose Congênita no DF, no período de 2001 a 2010. Em 2005 representou maior percentual no período analisado com 15,4% (135/874). Esses dados revelam que a falta de uma triagem sorológica de rotina em nosso meio não apenas dificulta o diagnóstico de toxoplasmose aguda na gestação. Além disso, contribui no aumento da incidência de infecção fetal clinicamente aparente, uma vez que o diagnóstico pré-natal passa a ser realizado mais tardiamente. Conclusão: As principais dificuldades encontradas na realização deste estudo foram identificar a população de casos de suspeitos por Toxoplasmose Congênita no DF. Sugere-se aos diversos atores, bem como da saúde, desenvolvimento de estratégias que diminuam o risco de exposição de fatores que contribuam em infecção das gestantes.Introduction: Toxoplasmosis is a disease worldwide zoonosis caused by protozoan whose etiologic agent is Toxoplasma gondii. Neonatal Toxoplasmosis results from intrauterine infection, ranging from asymptomatic to lethal, depending on age and fetal factors are not known. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the epidemiological profile of individuals living with congenital toxoplasmosis in the Federal District - Brazil, 2001-2010. Method: This is a descriptive study, a quantitative approach that aimed to identify the characteristics of newborns with congenital toxoplasmosis in Mexico City. Results and Discussion: We identified 874 confirmed cases of congenital toxoplasmosis in Mexico City, from 2001 to 2010. In 2005 represented the highest percentage in the period analyzed with 15.4% (135/874). These data show that a lack of routine serological screening in our region not only complicates the diagnosis of acute toxoplasmosis during pregnancy. It also helps in increasing the incidence of clinically apparent fetal infection, since prenatal diagnosis is to be held later. Conclusion: The main difficulties encountered in this study were to identify the population of suspects in cases of congenital toxoplasmosis in Mexico City.
