Caring for the Caregiver: The National Policy of Humanization Serving Workers

Resumo: This study aims to evidence the humanization of work for health workers as a main aspect, by using the National Policy of Humanization as a guide. The descriptive and qualitative research was carried out in a teaching hospital. Physicians and nurses from internal medicine and emergency medical service units took part in it. Observation and semi-structured interviews were used for data collection. The results indicate that there are conditions in the hospital environment which make work precarious and may negatively influence workers’ mental health. The importance of both attention to the workers’ needs and actions that promote mental health, which allow the care to caregivers and better satisfaction in the activities performed by them, must be highlighted.

Trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva e qualitativa realizada em um hospital de ensino. Os participantes foram médicos e enfermeiros das unidades de clínica médica e do pronto socorro. Foram utilizadas na coleta de dados a observação e a entrevista semiestruturada. Os resultados apontam que o ambiente hospitalar apresenta condições que tornam o trabalho precarizado e podem influenciar negativamente na saúde mental dos profissionais.
