Resumo: This article aims to reflect on the material power of the privatization discourse present in Brazilian higher education, its presence in government programs and how it materializes as an ideology. It works with the hypothesis that such a discourse plays a social function in the face of the consolidation of a privatist project for Brazilian higher education, aligned with the demands of capitalism in its financialized phase. Through the theoretical-methodological assumptions of Marxian and Marxist critical social theory as tools of analysis, it is concluded that the ideological offensive uttered by the different governments, marked by the acceleration of the implementation of a new University project, carries a material basis. The ideologies gives direction to social conflicts and give materiality to educational projects with determined interests.
