Experimental investigative activity in the Physics teaching and the development of cognitive skills

Resumo: This paper inquires what cognitive skills were developed by students in physics classes when they were challenged to calculate the average speed of a toy car that was provided to them as part of a didactic sequence. This challenge was propounded in an open mode for students to work the activity in an investigative way. In order to constitute the data of this research were used as device: the answers of each group of students to a problem introduced by teacher at the first action and the final report elaborated by them. The results provide evidence that the development of such activity favored the manifestation of higher order cognitive skills by part of the students.

The results provide evidence that the development of such activity favored the manifestation of higher order cognitive skills by part of the students.No presente artigo, buscou-se verificar quais habilidades cognitivas foram desenvolvidas pelos alunos, em aulas de física, ao serem desafiados a calcular a velocidade média de um carrinho de brinquedo que lhes foi fornecido como parte de uma sequência didática. Esse desafio foi colocado de forma aberta para que os alunos trabalhassem essa atividade de modo investigativo. Para constituir os dados desta pesquisa foram usados como instrumentos: as respostas de cada grupo de alunos a um problema colocado pela professora no início das atividades e o relatório final, por eles elaborados.
