Metals in the city of Oliveira do Bairro: a teaching sequence for secondary education of chemistry

Resumo: | The History, Art, and Chemistry of metallic monuments in the city of Oliveira do Bairro (Portugal) motivated the developmental and research a teaching sequence (TS) “CtoC – Chemistry to City” to improve the learning and skills of students of chemistry secondary education. In an innovative teaching approach, Design Thinking, they designed communication and education sessions disseminating the relationships between Science - Chemistry, Technology and Society in the local environment, contributing to the improvement of the scientific literacy of those involved. Data collection involved the application of a questionnaire (before and after the completion of the TS), interview and participant’ observation of the teacher as investigator. The content analysis of the collected data demonstrates that the students' skills were mobilized, such as: understanding the relationship between the properties of metals and metallic bonds; the critical and creative thinking and interpersonal relationship during the development process. |

En un enfoque de enseñanza innovador, Design Thinking, los alumnos diseñaron módulos de comunicación y educación, explotando las relaciones entre Ciencia - Química, Tecnología y Sociedad en el entorno local. El análisis del contenido a una encuesta [antes y después de la implementación del SD] y a una entrevista y de los registros de la profesora investigadora, demuestra el potencial del SD para mejorar los aprendizajes en la comprensión de la relación entre las propiedades de los metales y de los enlaces químicos, en la investigación y la comunicación, no solo en un pensamiento crítico y creativo, como también en las relaciones interpersonales.A História, a Arte e a Química de monumentos metálicos na cidade de Oliveira do Bairro (Portugal) motivaram a investigação e o desenvolvimento da sequência didática - SD “CtoC – Chemistry to City” para a melhoria das aprendizagens de vinte alunos de Química do 12º ano de escolaridade. Numa abordagem de ensino inovadora, o Design Thinking, eles desenharam módulos de comunicação e educação explorando as relações entre a Ciência - Química, Tecnologia e Sociedade no meio local, contribuindo para a melhoria da literacia científica dos envolvidos.
