Imagetic representation of the Brazilian Semiarid in the High School Natural Sciences textbooks approved in the PNLD 2021 and its implications for contextualized education

Resumo: | The textbook is under frequent evaluation; however, its imagery resources are often underestimated in analyses, as images of a poor and irredeemable Brazilian Semi-arid region that are widely disseminated and established in common sense. Thus, this research aimed to analyze how the Semi-arid is represented in the books approved for use in the New High School (2021-2023), analyzing, from a qualitative and quantitative perspective, the images referring to the Semi-arid present in the Natural Sciences books of the seven approved collections by the PNLD. The data obtained indicates a relative improvement in how the Semiarid region was represented, mainly through images that focus on its productive potential in the area of renewable energy and value its natural heritage. However, the Semi-arid region is still portrayed in a superficial and technical-descriptive manner, and it is up to the teacher and other local education agents to fill these gaps. |

Mientras que las imágenes de una región semiárida brasileña pobre e irredimible están ampliamente difundidas y están arraigadas en el sentido común. Por lo tanto, este trabajo buscó analizar cómo la región Semiárida está representada en los libros aprobados para su uso en la reforma do ensino secundario en Brasil ("Novo Ensino Médio", trienio 2021-2023). La investigación incluyó un análisis cualitativo y cuantitativo de imágenes referentes a la región semiárida presentes en libros de ciencias naturales de las siete colecciones aprobadas por el PNLD. Los datos obtenidos indican una mejora relativa en la forma en que se representó la región Semiárida, principalmente a través de imágenes que centran su potencial productivo en el área de las energías renovables y ponen en valor su patrimonio natural. Sin embargo, la región Semiárida aún se trabaja de manera superficial y técnico-descriptiva, y corresponde al docente y otros agentes docentes a nivel local superar estas debilidades.O livro didático está em constante avaliação, porém, seus recursos imagéticos são muitas vezes subestimados nas análises. Ao passo em que imagens de um Semiárido Brasileiro pobre e irremediável são amplamente difundidas e estão arraigadas no senso-comum. Assim, este trabalho procurou analisar como o Semiárido é representado nos livros aprovados para uso no Novo Ensino Médio (triênio 2021-2023). A pesquisa contou com a análise quali-quantitativa das imagens referentes ao semiárido presentes nos livros de ciências naturais das sete coleções aprovadas pelo PNLD. Os dados obtidos indicam uma relativa melhora na maneira em que o Semiárido foi representado, principalmente através de imagens que enfocam seu potencial produtivo na área de energias renováveis e valoriza seu patrimônio natural.
