Resumo: Despite all the recent investment by the scientific community related to the contribution of neuroscience to education, there are still many problems that continue to delay the success of this possible partnership. The dissemination of myths that obscure the advances of neuroscience for education has been a major problem in basic education. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate brain knowledge and the prevalence of neuromyths among elementary and high school students in the Federal District. To do so, students were asked to answer an online questionnaire containing 32 statements, 16 of which were designed to assess knowledge about the brain and the remaining 16 statements are neuromyths. The average score for knowledge about the brain was 55.1% and the average score for neuromyths was 43.1%. The results allow for the conclusion that a gap in neuroscience-related knowledge persists among students in basic education.
