A teaching look at the difficulties of Environmental Education in school

Resumo: | The present article reports a research developed with science, chemistry, physics and mathematics teachers, who teach in elementary or high school, whose objective was to identify the difficulties observed or faced in approaching environmental education. The methodology used was qualitative in nature, a questionnaire was applied to collect the data. Among the fifteen participating teachers, six reported difficulties in approaching environmental themes, which varied according to the area of training. Teachers trained in biological sciences have difficulty regarding environmental legislation issues, how to work environmental education in a cross-cutting and critical way, and the development of practical activities outside school. On the other hand, chemistry, physics and mathematics teachers show even more basic difficulties, related to the lack of knowledge about environmental themes, and to integrate them with the content of their disciplines. In relation to the themes with great difficulty in understanding by students, only those trained in biological sciences presented coherent answers, reinforcing the difficulty and/or lack of approach to environmental issues by teachers in other areas. Teachers showed an interest in support material and indicated several aspects in which it would assist in work of environmental education. |

Teachers showed an interest in support material and indicated several aspects in which it would assist in work of environmental education.O presente artigo relata pesquisa desenvolvida com professores de ciências, química, física e matemática, que lecionam no ensino fundamental e/ou ensino médio, cujo objetivo foi identificar as dificuldades observadas ou enfrentadas na abordagem de temas de educação ambiental. A metodologia foi de natureza qualitativa, com emprego de um questionário para a coleta de dados. Dos quinze professores participantes, seis relataram dificuldades na abordagem de temas ambientais, as quais variaram conforme a área de formação. Os professores formados em ciências biológicas sentem dificuldade em questões referentes à legislação ambiental, em como trabalhar a educação ambiental de forma transversal e crítica, e no desenvolvimento de atividades práticas fora da escola. Já os professores de química, física e matemática apresentam dificuldades ainda mais básicas, relacionadas à falta de conhecimento sobre temas ambientais, e a integrá-los com os conteúdos de suas disciplinas. Quanto aos temas de maior dificuldade de compreensão por parte dos estudantes, somente os formados em ciências biológicas apresentaram respostas coerentes, reforçando a dificuldade e/ou a falta da abordagem de temas ambientais pelos professores das demais áreas. Os docentes manifestaram interesse em material de apoio e sinalizaram vários aspectos nos quais este auxiliaria em relação ao trabalho da educação ambiental.
