Using SARESP questions to analyze errors and mistakes difficulties students have about Algebra

Resumo: Our goal in this article is to present possibilities of using external evaluations items to the school and analyze errors and difficulties that students have about algebra. The analysis we present is part of a research which primary purpose was to analyze the strategies of students focusing on mistakes and difficulties presented to resolve a data collection instrument composed by 13 questions involving Algebra teaching system reports for assessing the Learning of the State of São Paulo (Saresp) from 2008 to 2011. We used the following categories of errors: misused data, incorrect interpretation of language, logically invalid inferences, theorems or distorted definitions, lack of verification of the solution and technical errors. The results showed that the errors and mistakes made by students are mostly technical.

As análises que apresentamos fazem parte de uma pesquisa cujo objetivo principal foi o de analisar as estratégias dos alunos com foco nos erros cometidos e dificuldades apresentadas ao resolverem um instrumento de coleta de dados composto por 13 questões envolvendo Álgebra, escolhidas nos relatórios pedagógicos do Sistema de Avaliação da Aprendizagem Escolar do Estado de São Paulo (Saresp) dos anos de 2008 a 2011. Adotamos as categorias de erros: dados mal utilizados, interpretação incorreta de linguagem, inferências logicamente inválidas, teoremas ou definições distorcidos, falta de verificação da solução e erros técnicos.
