Contributions of Paschoal Lemme's marxist perspective to adult education

Resumo: The article discusses the contributions of Pascoal Lemme (1904-1997) in the history of Adult Education in Brazil and put highlights in the theoretical and practical contributions of this intellectual in defense of the construction of public policies of education for all. It is supported by authors such as: Vanilda Paiva (1987), Moacir Gadotti (2013), Sonia Rummert (2016), Zaia Brandão (2010), in addition to Paschoal Lemme (1955, 1988, 2004, 2015), among others. From a historical re-reading, considering a temporality that precedes the well-known landmarks of popular education in the 1960s, it highlights Lemme's struggle for public school; the insufficiency and historical precariousness of educational services aimed at adult education; and the recurring denial of workers' right to education. It concludes that the work of this important intellectual, based on historical-dialectical materialism, is significant and contributes to understanding and overcoming our main educational problems, including the restrictive conditions of access to school for the majority of the Brazilian population. Including, reflecting on the possibility of building a new starting point for Youth and Adult Education to be assumed by public education networks. In addition, it points out that thinking about Adult Education is not homogeneous, and therefore, there is a hegemonic dispute between the different views of Adult Education that underlie the activities on practice and scientific research in the field.

Cuenta con el respaldo de autores como: Vanilda Paiva (1987), Moacir Gadotti (2013), Sonia Rummert (2016), Zaia Brandão (2010), además de Paschoal Lemme (1955, 1988, 2004, 2015), entre otros. A partir de una relectura histórica, considerando una temporalidad que antecede a los conocidos hitos de la educación popular en la década de 1960, se destaca la lucha de Lemme por la escuela pública; la insuficiencia y precariedad histórica de los servicios educativos destinados a la educación de adultos; y la negación recurrente del derecho a la educación de los trabajadores. Concluye que la obra de este importante intelectual, basada en el materialismo histórico-dialéctico, es significativa y contribuye a la comprensión y superación de nuestros principales problemas educativos, entre ellos, las condiciones restrictivas de acceso a la escuela para la mayoría de la población brasileña. Inclusive, reflexionar sobre la posibilidad de construir un nuevo punto de partida para la Educación de Adultos a ser asumido por las redes de educación pública. Además, señala que el pensamiento sobre EA no es homogéneo, por lo que existe una disputa hegemónica entre las diferentes visiones de EJA que subyacen a las actividades sobre la práctica y la investigación científica en el campo.Este artigo discute as contribuições de Pascoal Lemme (1904-1997) na história da Educação de Adultos (EA) no Brasil e destaca as contribuições teóricas e práticas desse intelectual em defesa da construção de políticas públicas de educação para todos. Respalda-se em autores como: Vanilda Paiva (1987), Moacir Gadotti (2013), Sonia Rummert (2016), Zaia Brandão (2010), além do próprio Paschoal Lemme (1955, 1988, 2004, 2015), entre outros. A partir de uma releitura histórica, considerando uma temporalidade que antecede os conhecidos marcos da educação popular da década de 1960, evidencia-se a luta de Lemme pela escola pública; a insuficiência e a precariedade histórica dos serviços educacionais direcionados à educação de adultos; e a recorrente negação do direito à educação para os trabalhadores. Conclui-se que a obra desse importante intelectual, fundamentada no materialismo histórico-dialético, é significativa e contribui para a compreensão e a superação dos nossos principais problemas educacionais, entre eles, as condições restritivas de acesso à escola à maioria da população brasileira. Inclusive, reflete-se sobre a possibilidade de erigir um novo ponto de partida para a Educação de Adultos ser assumida pelas redes públicas de educação.
