Resumo: With the break from the traditional paradigm into an emerging paradigm the forms of knowledge and science become much more democratic. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are examples of forms of knowledge based on this new paradigm, and an ICT that stands out for its educational and democratic potential is podcast. In this way, the research aims to characterize the Brazilian population of podcast listeners, relating this characterization to the educational possibilities of the podcast. This objective is achieved through documentary methodology. In general, the podcast listener population belongs to large virtual communities, is male and is in Higher Education, being listeners for more than four years. The growth of the interest of this population for the subjects of education, history and politics stands out.

As TIC (Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação) são exemplos de formas de conhecimento a partir deste novo paradigma, e uma TIC que se destaca por seu potencial educativo e democrático é o podcast. Desta forma, a pesquisa objetiva caracterizar a população brasileira de ouvintes de podcasts, relacionando essa caracterização com as possibilidades educacionais deste. Este objetivo é atingido por meio de metodologia documental. De maneira geral, a população ouvinte de podcasts pertence a grandes comunidades virtuais, é masculina e encontra-se no Ensino Superior, sendo ouvintes por mais de quatro anos.
