Resumo: This article presents a discussion of architecture for contemporary theater spaces. The following were established: to characterize and discuss contemporary practices of the scenic arts, identifying their spatial needs; and present guidelines for the construction of contemporary theaters. The methodology used was the bibliographical discussion, the examination of architectural examples and the study of the theatrical context. As conclusions it was possible to realize that cities have demands of new theaters and that these spaces should be flexible environments and that favor a closer and interactive relationship between the public and actors, favoring modern scenography, sound, projection and lighting technologies.

Tenemos los siguientes objetivos: caracterizar y discutir las prácticas contemporáneas de las artes escénicas, identificando sus necesidades espaciales; y presentar lineamientos para la construcción de teatros contemporáneos. La metodología utilizada fue la discusión bibliográfica, el examen de ejemplos arquitectónicos y el estudio del contexto teatral. Como conclusiones se pudo percibir que las ciudades tienen demandas de nuevos teatros y que estos espacios deben ser ambientes flexibles que favorezcan una relación más cercana e interactiva entre el público y los actores, privilegiando las modernas tecnologías de escenografía, sonido, proyección e iluminación.Este artigo apresenta uma discussão sobre a arquitetura para espaços teatrais contemporâneos. Têm-se os seguintes objetivos: caracterizar e discutir as práticas contemporâneas das artes cênicas, identificando suas necessidades espaciais; e apresentar orientações para a construção de teatros contemporâneos. A metodologia empregada foi a discussão bibliográfica, o exame de exemplos arquitetônicos e o estudo do contexto teatral.
