Resumo: This article aims to address the definition of dramaturgy. To do so, it focuses on the detachment of the term from the notion of “written text”, and on the explosion of meanings of this concept from the second half of the 20th century. The understanding of this definition will be built from a historical and critical review of the reference literature, articles and academic texts, both by national and foreign authors. In its first part, the article focuses specifically on the theatrical origin of the notion of dramaturgy; then, it deals with the expansion of dramaturgy to other areas, focusing mainly on contemporary dance; and ends by dealing with the notion of dramaturgy as structuring the meaning of the play, based on Ana Pais.

En su primera parte, el artículo se centra específicamente en el origen teatral de la noción de dramaturgia; luego, se trata de la expansión de la dramaturgia a otros ámbitos, centrándose principalmente en la danza contemporánea; y finaliza abordando la noción de dramaturgia como estructurante del sentido del espectáculo, a partir de Ana PaisEste artigo tem como objetivo tratar da definição de dramaturgia. Para tanto, se debruça sobre a desvinculação do termo à noção de “texto escrito”, e sobre a explosão de significados deste conceito a partir da segunda metade do século 20. O entendimento dessa definição será construído a partir de uma revisão histórica e crítica da literatura de referência, artigos e textos acadêmicos, tanto de autores nacionais quanto estrangeiros.
