Resumo: This study aims to reflect on the role of the hospital class in educational care for children in health care. The research is theoretical with methodology of bibliographic and documentary nature. In deepening the theme, the legal guidelines and texts that address the continuity of the educational process of the sick child were consulted and analyzed. The results reveal that the role of the hospital class is a complex movement that considers the pursuit of school knowledge, but goes beyond, also contributing to the understanding of the context, the disease and the new routine of the child being treated. The hospital class also reflects the social function of the school, a space originally constituted for the continuity of life and surrounded by the prospect of a better future.

La investigación es teórica con metodología de naturaleza bibliográfica y documental. Al profundizar el tema, se consultaron y analizaron las pautas legales y los textos que abordan la continuidad del proceso educativo del niño enfermo. Los resultados revelan que el papel de la clase hospitalaria es un movimiento complejo que considera la búsqueda del conocimiento escolar, pero va más allá, también contribuye a la comprensión del contexto, la enfermedad y la nueva rutina del niño que está siendo tratado. La clase de hospital también refleja la función social de la escuela, un espacio originalmente constituido para la continuidad de la vida y rodeado por la perspectiva de un futuro mejor.  Esse estudo tem por objetivo refletir sobre o papel da classe hospitalar no atendimento educacional às crianças em tratamento de saúde. A pesquisa é teórica com metodologia de cunho bibliográfico e documental. No aprofundamento do tema, as diretrizes legais e os textos que abordam a continuidade do processo educacional da criança enferma foram consultados e analisados. Os resultados revelam que o papel da classe hospitalar é um movimento complexo que considera o prosseguimento dos conhecimentos escolares, mas vai além, contribuindo também para a compreensão do contexto, da enfermidade e da nova rotina da criança em tratamento.
