Resumo: The discourse disseminated by youth books, distributed in public schools by the federal government, as a device that has contributed to the silencing of gender and sexuality diversity at school. The study analyzed three literatures indicated by the National Textbook Program - PNLD Literário 2020, for the 8th and 9th grades: Chapeuzinho Esfarrapado and other feminist tales (2018), Extraordinary: women who revolutionized Brazil (2018) and Exercício de Amor (2018). We seek to investigate in such a context, the extent to which the analyzed literary works contribute or not with the dismantling of prejudices and heteronormative stereotypes among readers. From the reading of the works, the analysis of the narratives was carried out, focusing on the characteristics of the characters and the construction and evolution of the plots. In this becoming, we rely theoretically and methodologically, especially in Butler's gender studies (2017) and in research in the field of LGBTQIA + literature by two researchers and authors: Lúcia Facco (2009) and José Silvério Trevisan (2018). After the analysis, we found that the plots of the selected works describe men and women, boys and girls of many types. All protagonists, one way or another, have active roles, make decisions, choose their destinies. However, only one of them directly addressed the LGBTQIA+ theme.
