Resumo: | Brazilian education went through several phases that were strongly influenced by political and economic aspects, both in the creation and in the formulation and reformulation of educational policies. Having said that, we carried out in this study, a brief historical review, from the arrival of the Jesuits in Brazil, in the mid-1500s, to the 1960s. We aim, therefore, to present the historical, political, and economic process of Brazilian education, from 1500 to 1960, thus evidencing the role of the State in providing school education. For this, we carried out a research of a narrative bibliographic nature with a qualitative approach. From the study, we realize that the various initiatives in the field of education are linked to the political and economic aspects that educational policies while seeking to democratize school access, have contributed to the process of discrimination and exclusion in a society divided into classes. We conclude, therefore, that the expansion of educational coverage in Brazil was a slow process, permeated by struggles, whose predominant characteristic was the technical training of the children of the working class to act as the workforce. |
