Resumo: | The story of the novel Torto arado (VIEIRA JUNIOR, 2019) follows the experiences of the sisters Bibiana and Belonísia. From the construction of a school in the community where they lived, two ways of seeing education and two conceptions of teaching are presented. While Belonísia saw no meaning in the activities proposed by the teacher, Bibiana understood education as a means of liberation. These scenarios can be related to Paulo Freire's theory. Thus, the purpose of this article is to analyze the situations, presented in the book Torto arado, that illustrate the exercises of banking education and liberating education. We followed a qualitative approach, with a theoretical-bibliographic character, using as a source the reports written in the aforementioned novel, in dialogue with the concepts presented in the book Pedagogy of the oppressed (FREIRE, 2021). This analogy reinforces the importance of Freire's legacy, demonstrating its contributions to education, especially in relation to the development of critical consciousness for human emancipation. |

A partir da construção de uma escola na comunidade em que viviam, apresentam-se duas formas de ver a educação e duas concepções de ensino. Enquanto Belonísia não encontrava sentido nas atividades propostas pela professora, Bibiana compreendia a educação como um meio de libertação. Esses cenários podem ser relacionados à teoria de Paulo Freire. Assim, o objetivo deste artigo é analisar as situações, presentes no livro Torto arado, que ilustram os exercícios da educação bancária e da educação libertadora. Seguimos uma abordagem qualitativa, com caráter teórico-bibliográfico, utilizando como fonte os relatos escritos no romance supracitado, em diálogo com os conceitos apresentados na obra Pedagogia do oprimido (FREIRE, 2021).
