Autism and Basic Education: an experience report of the UniTEA project

Resumo: | One of society's greatest challenges is the groundwork of inclusive education to meet the needs of Basic Education (BE) students who suffer from autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Thus, we aimed to show the experience of the extension workers from the Universo TEA - UniTEA project, referring to a lecture held for BE teachers about key concepts of Autism and the issue of teaching kids in the spectrum, in a private school in Fortaleza/CE. The present study is an experience report of a descriptive and qualitative nature about the experiences made by members of UniTEA about the key concepts of TEA and the problem of educating children with autism. The moment was very enriching, for both the teachers and the extension workers. The discussions focused on the challenges of raising a child with ASD and the acceptance of the diagnosis by the parents. In conclusion, the teachers received the presentation well, leading to positive conversations about inclusive education for children with ASD. |

In conclusion, the teachers received the presentation well, leading to positive conversations about inclusive education for children with ASD.Um dos maiores desafios da sociedade é o de proporcionar uma Educação Inclusiva para atender às demandas dos alunos da Educação Básica (EB) que estão dentro do Transtorno do Espectro Autista (TEA). Assim, objetivamos expor sobre a experiência dos extensionistas do projeto Universo TEA – UniTEA, referente a uma aula ministrada sobre conceitos chaves do TEA e a problemática da educação de crianças com autismo para professoras da EB, de uma escola particular de Fortaleza/CE. O presente estudo trata de um relato de experiência, de caráter descritivo e qualitativo, sobre a experiência vivenciada por membros do UniTEA. O momento foi bastante enriquecedor, tanto para as professoras, como para as extensionistas. As discussões geradas versaram sobre os desafios de educar uma criança com TEA e a aceitação do diagnóstico pelos pais.
