Resumo: This article aims to study the pedagogical practices represented in the book A escolinha do mar, by Ruth Rocha. For the development of this work we will use as theoretical foundation the contributions of scholars such as Antonio Candido (1959), Libâneo (1994), and Paulo Freire (1996). This research presents a critical analysis of the pedagogical practices in evidence throughout the text. It is, therefore, a qualitative research that leads us to reflect on the relationship between teaching and meaningful learning. Finally, it is possible to state that, since a literary work is a social object, it contains many statements about the society of a time. In this way, man, when producing art, ends up translating the way of thinking and acting of a time, thus allowing that Literature represents a relevant source for research related to Education and its practices.

Para o desenvolvimento desse trabalho utilizaremos como fundamentação teórica as contribuições de estudiosos como: Antonio Candido (1959), Libâneo (1994) e Paulo Freire (1996). Essa investigação apresenta uma análise crítica sobre as práticas pedagógicas em evidência ao longo do texto. Trata-se, pois, de uma pesquisa de cunho qualitativo que nos conduz à reflexão sobre a relação entre o fazer docente e a aprendizagem significativa. Por fim, é possível afirmar que, sendo a obra literária um objeto social, há nela muitas declarações sobre a sociedade de um tempo.
