Resumo: | In this article, we initially reconstituted, the sources and the functions performed by two colleges of the Society of Jesus in America: Rio de Janeiro and Córdoba colleges –, highlighting especially its importance while training centers and dispersion of the missionary project through the inventories produced in the times of the Order expulsion in 1759 (Portuguese America) and in 1767 (Hispanic America). The collections of their libraries and boticas realize they were centers of knowledge production and dissemination, as well as, their farms and haciendas demonstrate the economic importance for sustaining the missionary project. Despite these colleges have been installed in areas under the administration of sovereigns rivals and in very different contexts – separated by more than fifty years –, the motivations for its creation were the same, as well as the functions assigned to them and who came to play. |
