The intellectual relationship between Ángel Rama and Antonio Candido: the creation of a Latin American critical language

Resumo: The intellectual relationship between Antonio Candido and Ángel Rama since 1960, intended to modify the long tradition of frustrated attempts to unify the Brazilian thought with in a Latin American thought. The present article analyses the influence Candido’s Formação da literatura brasileira (1959) and Literatura y Sociedad (1965) had in Rama’s transculturation model, developed thorough fully in his book Transculturación narrativa en América Latina (1982), as well as how this intellectual dialogue founded an original critical language that pursued to integrate the Brazilian literature as a part of a continental literature.

El presente trabajo pretende dar cuenta de las instancias de este diálogo intelectual como intento por integrar la literatura brasileña en el marco de una literatura latinoamericana, a partir de la definición de un lenguaje crítico original y novedoso. Para ello se comparan los puntos en contacto que presentan ambas teorías a partir de la influencia de la obra Formação da literatura brasileira (1959) y utilizando también el libro de ensayos Literatura y Sociedad (1965) de Candido en el proyecto transculturador de Rama que se pone de manifiesto en su libro Transculturación narrativa en América Latina (1982).O diálogo intelectual realizado por Antonio Cándido e Ángel Rama a partir de 1960 tenta reverter a longa tradição de tentativas frustradas de unificar o pensamento brasileiro dentro de um pensamento regional latino-americano. Este artigo pretende dar conta das instâncias desse diálogo intelectual como uma tentativa de integrar a literatura brasileira no quadro de uma literatura latino-americana, a partir da definição de uma linguagem crítica original e inovadora.
