Resumo: Grounded on considerations about the narrative model used by Portuguese neo-realist writer Carlos de Oliveira in the novel Uma abelha na chuva, this paper intends to demonstrate that deprivation and frustration aren’t working class’ or rural class’ exclusiveness, but that there’s a web embarrassing characters, all of them miserable and oppressed people. That’s because Carlos de Oliveira sees and writes characters as discursively and literarily constructed individuals, repudiating the stereotypy, the standard behaviors and the sufferance predicted by Marxist economicist idea.
