Freedom and equality in the theories of democracy in the 18th and 19th centuries

Resumo: The purpose of this article is to present some reflections on democracy in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is believed that the reflection on the countless theorizations is of great importance in that it alone can reveal the unusual obstacles and paths that democracy has followed and continues to follow. The construction of innumerable meanings for democracy dialogues, in some way, with the diverse questions that have developed over time. The constant reworking of these meanings does not take place in a vacuum, since it permanently draws on an enormous theoretical heritage that has been formed over the centuries.

Acredita-se que a reflexão sobre as inúmeras teorizações é de grande importância na medida em que somente ela pode revelar os percalços e os caminhos inusitados que a democracia percorreu e continua a percorrer. A construção de inúmeros significados para a democracia dialoga, de alguma forma, com as diversas indagações que .se desenvolveram no transcorrer dos tempos.
