Children and transmission lines in São Luís: Methodological perspectives of a research on children's representations

Resumo: This article revisits the research carried out on the presence of communities in easement transmission line strips of Eletronorte in São Luís, to think over methodological perspectives in researches on children’s representations. Although children had not been considered on the initial project – which aimed to analyze the representations and relationships that rural communities of São Luís establish with Eletronorte’s equipment –, we were surprised by the children’s protagonist role. Therefore, considering children in the field has become fundamental to fully reach the research objectives, which is the discussion carried out in this article. In addition to a methodological analysis, we verified children’s representations of the equipment, the company and the easement strips, and we identified children’s actions based on these representations through techniques like informal conversations and drawings made by the children, thus composing an ethnography. Therefore, although the investigation is not defined as a research with or on children specifically, through this analytical approach, we demonstrated the importance of taking children as research subjects as any other field variable – men, women, elderly – otherwise, we do not fully understand a reality.

Aunque los niños no fueron considerados en el proyecto inicial, cuyo objetivo era analizar las representaciones y relaciones que las comunidades rurales de São Luís establecieron con el equipo Eletronorte, me sorprendió el protagonismo infantil. Por lo tanto, considerar a los niños en el campo se volvió esencial para dar cuenta de los objetivos de la investigación en su totalidad, que es la discusión realizada en este artículo. Además de un análisis metodológico, verificamos las representaciones de los niños sobre el equipo, la compañía y el rango de servidumbre, e identificamos las acciones del niño respaldadas por estas representaciones a través de técnicas tales como conversaciones informales y dibujos realizados por los niños, componiendo así una etnografía. Por lo tanto, aunque la investigación no se define como la investigación con o específicamente sobre los niños, a través de este marco analítico, demostramos la importancia de tomar a los niños como sujetos de investigación como cualquier otra variable de campo: hombres, mujeres, ancianos, bajo pena de no Comprender completamente una realidad dada.Este artigo revisita a pesquisa realizada sobre a presença de comunidades em faixas de servidão de linhas de transmissão da Eletronorte em São Luís, para refletir sobre perspectivas metodológicas na pesquisa sobre representações infantis. Embora as crianças não tenham sido consideradas no projeto inicial - cujo objetivo era analisar as representações e relações que as comunidades rurais de São Luís estabeleciam com os equipamentos da Eletronorte, - fui surpreendida pelo protagonismo infantil. Logo, considerar as crianças em campo tornou-se fundamental para dar conta dos objetivos da pesquisa em sua totalidade, sendo esta a discussão realizada neste artigo. Além de uma análise metodológica, verificamos as representações das crianças sobre os equipamentos, a empresa e a faixa de servidão, e identificamos as ações infantis respaldadas nessas representações através de técnicas como conversas informais e desenhos elaborados pelas crianças compondo, assim, uma etnografia.
