Reflections on grammar in the Portuguese language teaching/learning process

This article seeks to present the results of analysis of part of the data collected in the project of etnographical research in Applied Linguistics, developed by the Department of Vernacular and Classical Letters at the State University of Londrina, coordinated by teacher Alba Maria Perfeito and entitled Writing and grammar teaching: a new look at an old problem. The data, from aan elementary school four grade at a public school in the north area of the city of Londrina, allows us to verify how the process of teaching/learning Portuguese Language takes place and, inside it, the teaching of grammar. According to the social-interacionist theory of language, the genre must be the object of teaching and the text, the center of that process. Its study needs to embrace the three interdependent practices: reading, linguistic analysis, including grammar, and textual production. With this perspective, we will describe and analyze the theoretical-methodological procedures used by the subject-teacher in focus.
