Discourse markers in english language employed in digital conversation via Skype

Resumo: This work aims at analyzing the functions of the discourse markers employed in two dialogues among non-native speakers of English. The interaction occurred in May 2011, and it was carried out in English as there was, on one side, a speaker of Portuguese, and on the other side, speakers of Spanish as their mother tongue (Colombia). The dialogues were held via skype, a computer program which allows the participants to get involved in simultaneous spoken or written conversations.We chose the written simultaneous conversation because the situations were all about negotiation of exchange programs for recruiting students to work in Londrina as volunteers in projects offered by AIESEC.

A interação ocorreu em maio de 2011, e a decisão pela língua inglesa deu-se, principalmente, pelo fato de haver, de um lado, um falante de língua portuguesa e, do outro, falantes de espanhol (Colômbia), como línguas maternas. Os diálogos foram realizados por meio do skype, um programa computacional que permite aos indivíduos interagir em conversações digitais simultâneas faladas ou escritas.
