Resumo: This article provides a panoramic study of German real estate law. This is a research that uses descriptive and deductive methodology, based primarily on bibliographic, case law and legislative research. It presents the fundamental principles that govern the matter, highlighting the principles of registration, separation and abstraction, the latter a peculiarity of German law. It analyzes the modes of acquisition and loss of real estate, with an emphasis on the functioning and particularities of the German real estate registry. The text also investigates the treatment given by the German system to the bona fide purchaser and the charges on real estate. Finally, the panoramic study of the matter seeks to encourage the reader to better understand the socioeconomic role of real estate law and to look for solutions in German law to problems existing in Brazil.

Para tanto, utiliza-se de metodologia descritiva e dedutiva, baseada fundamentalmente em revisão bibliográfica e na investigação da legislação e da jurisprudência. Apresenta os princípios fundamentais que regem a matéria, merecendo destaque os princípios do registro, da separação e da abstração, este último uma peculiaridade do direito alemão. Analisa os modos de aquisição e de perda da propriedade imóvel, com ênfase no funcionamento e nas particularidades do registro imobiliário alemão. O texto também investiga o tratamento dado pelo sistema alemão ao adquirente de boa-fé e aos direitos reais de garantia.
