Urban forestation of Aracaju: a perception of local residents

Resumo: The urban forestry while providing direct and indirect benefits to humans has not been addressed in the urban planning of most Brazilian cities. This research aimed to understand the perception, that is, the affective bond that residents of the city of Aracaju, have in relation to urban forestry, as well as whether there differences in the perception between men and women. The number of interviews was 619, with residents, distributed according to age, gender and neighborhood in which the responses were analyzed from the qualitative and quantitative approach. It was found that men and women have a strong correspondence with the natural landscape in leisure and environmental problems. On the other hand, when the tree was treated as a separate component, the correspondence does not seem to be so strong. It is suggested environmental education programs that address issues related to the benefits of urban forest.

Entretanto, a arborização não tem recebido a atenção necessária, sendo abordada de forma relapsa, ou nem sequer abordada, dentro dos Planos Diretores de grande parte das cidades brasileiras. Dentro desse contexto, a realização de pesquisas que utilizem a percepção ambiental como ferramenta são importantes, pois visam conhecer a opinião dos cidadãos com relação à arborização da sua cidade. Esse trabalho, portanto, teve por objetivo analisar a percepção dos munícipes de Aracaju (SE), por gênero, com relação à arborização desse município. Para isso, foram realizadas entrevistas a 619 moradores, distribuídas segundo a faixa etária, o gênero e o bairro/conjunto. Dentre os entrevistados 55,74% eram mulheres e 44,26% homens. Quando perguntado qual a área de lazer mais freqüentada, homens e mulheres optaram por praias e rios; a área de lazer a ser construída prioritariamente seria um balneário/piscina, e o problema ambiental mais grave é o despejo inadequado de resíduos sólidos. A arborização do município foi classificada como regular para 36,9% dos homens e boa para 34,8% das mulheres. Mais de 50% dos entrevistados não têm árvore em frente as suas casas. Para ambos os sexos, a responsabilidade de manter a cidade com árvores bem cuidadas é da Prefeitura. O percentual de homens (85%) que respondeu já visitar algum parque do município é maior do que o de mulheres (79,7%), entretanto, os entrevistados eram inseguros quanto suas respostas.
