Knowledge management and academic orientation: interrelationships

Introduction: Technical and scientific production is only possible through the intervenience of various aspects of knowledge management (KM), even if unconscious or unnamed. This review article was done as part of an Masters study, which studied knowledge management and the process of orientation of strict sensu postgraduate students. Objective: Present knowledge management understood as the management of the sharing of information, and highlight that knowledge management is not a practice restricted to organizations. Methodology: It presents the essential elements of a narrative type literature review developed based on in the theoretical ground of the research for the elaboration of the dissertation "Sharing knowledge and the orientation process of graduate students" (SÁ, 2015). In this work were identified papers on the management of knowledge in the scientific and academic sphere, as well as articles on academic orientation. This material were analyzed with the aim of analyze the interrelation of these two themes. The articles were collected and analyzed between August 2014 and July 2017. The present study used as sources the Portal de Periódicos da Capes, the Information Science Database (Base de Dados em Ciência da Informação – BRAPCI), the Academic Repository of Library Science and Information Science (Repositório Acadêmico de Biblioteconomia e Ciência da Informação – RABCI), and the Brazilian Portal of Scientific Publications in Open Access (Portal Brasileiro de Publicações Científicas em Acesso Aberto – OASISBR). Results: Emphasizes how little knowledge management is discussed to be used in the scientific and academic settings. Conclusions: It was observed that knowledge management is present in academic orientation when scientists and researchers share and use information to create new knowledge. The exercise of scientific intellectual construction and, consequently, of academic orientation cannot be dissociated from knowledge management. Knowledge management applied to orientation intends to promote the dissemination of best practices of academic orientation and promote the development of abilities of the tutors in helping their students to create new knowledge from the sharing and use of learning in orientations.
