Mishaps in critical education: the potential of school library

Objective: Discuss the legitimacy of neoliberal educational policies by articulating them with the performance of school libraries and possible paths in the fight for quality public education. Methodology: With a bibliographic review on the theme and in a perspective of functional analysis, we interpret the social structure in the relationship between groups, subjects and institutions, articulating the role of educational policies and the performance of the school library with the values of the current capitalist and neoliberal system. Results: The emptying of school curriculum unfolds in an education that prioritizes technical teaching; it is up to the school library to walk in a socio-cultural and political perspective. Knowing the reality of the school community, allows the librarian to transform the library into a collective space of knowledge. Conclusions: This essay used the standardization of school knowledge at national level, to explore the reality of school libraries and paths they can take in the fight for public and quality education. In addition to financial and professional resources in the school library, the librarian's performance must be articulated to the pedagogical program, interacting with teachers and supported by the information needs of the user community, dynamically presenting itself at school as a space of possibilities and creation.
