Resumo: Objective: To identify the competence of archivists and students in training in their professional practices and their relationship with the labor market. Methodology: exploratory and descriptive research, through literature review in databases of interest to Archival and Information Science (CI); documental research; analysis of Internship Commitment Terms (TCE), Pedagogical Project and Curriculum Matrix of the Archives Course at UFSC. Results: We highlighted the main competences related to the archivist: archival; of communication and expression; of metadata; information technology; ethic; managerial; organizational; digital curation; professional; social and political; technique; technical-scientific; technical-operational; relating to management and organization. Regarding the competence of the student in training, aspects of the intern's profile made the difference in the final sum of the data. The identification of activities carried out in an internship environment and the technical competence in carrying out the activities were essential for analysis and contextualization with the Course of Archivology at UFSC. Conclusions: The singularities of the information professional's performance require continuing education aligned with the challenges of the scientific field and social transformations. It is necessary for the teaching program of the Archives Course at UFSC, as well as for the 16 Archives Courses in Brazil, to incorporate technological competence and the issue of employability in the construction and execution of the curriculum.
