On the free association status as fundamental rule: theoretical pillars of this technique

Resumo: In 1912, Freud said that, in psychoanalisis, research and treatment are integrated. In 1923, Freud defined psychoanalysis in such a manner that the integration of research, treatment and theory within this science became evident, and the displacement of any of these aspects could disqualify psychoanalysis. However, there are some extreme psychoanalytical readings that emphasize only one of those aspects, highlighting either the theory or the technique, as shown by some authors. In order to contribute to the discussions about psychoanalytic formation and practice and to the retrieval of Freud’s integrative vision, the course was set to evince the theoretical basis underlying the technique of free association, a fundamental rule of psychoanalysis, in order to clarify the reasons that give it such status. Therefore, two important Freudian theses and metapsychological descriptions present in The Interpretation of Dreams (1900) are explained, from among which stands out the notion of meta- representations.

Con el propósito de colaborar con las discusiones acerca de la formación y práctica psicoanalíticas y el rescate de la visión integradora de Freud, se pretende aclarar la base teórica subyacente a la técnica de la asociación libre, una regla fundamental del psicoanálisis, con el fin de aclarar las razones que le dan esa condición. A tal fin, se explican dos importantes tesis y descripciones metapsicológicas de Freud presentes en La interpretación de los sueños (1900), entre las cuales se destaca la noción de meta- representaciones.Em 1912, Freud afirmou que na psicanálise pesquisa e tratamento coincidem. Em 1923, definiu-a de tal modo que evidenciou que pesquisa, tratamento e teoria, nesta ciência, estariam integrados, sendo que o deslocamento de um desses aspectos possivelmente a descaracterizaria. Todavia, é possível notar a existência de leituras psicanalíticas extremas, que enfatizam apenas um deles, dando destaque ora para a teoria, ora para a técnica, como mostram alguns autores. Com vistas a contribuir para as discussões sobre formação e prática psicanalíticas e com o resgate da visão integradora de Freud, busca-se evidenciar as bases teóricas que fundamentam a técnica da associação livre, regra fundamental da psicanálise, a fim de esclarecer as justificativas que lhe conferem tal estatuto.
