Resumo: Classical works from universal literature are in the Brazilian context in their many types of representation. They can be revisited in several modes like movies, plays, games or they can also be kept in the same mode that they were firstly conceived, in other words, they can be adapted or used as an intertext in the countless written genres. In this sense, it is possible to find relations between canonical and mass literature, the last, frequently, which uses works from famous writers as nspiration. Noticing it, my hypothesis is that the foreign literature, both canonical and mass, circulates in Brazil, so that the readers are able to use the various modes where literature is presented and, also, that the influence of mass literature and their multimodalities are important tools to the formation of the reader's identity. Therefore, I aim at analyzing the Twilight saga, from Stephenie Meyer, which has the intertext with works from the canonical literature as Romeo and Juliet (Shakespeare) and Wuthering Heights (Emily Brontë). In the proposed analysis I will focus the specific goals: a) analyze how the intertext made in the books is presented - if presented - in their cinematographic adaptations; b) verify, through readers commentaries on internet, if they were interested by reading the canon mentioned on the saga or other kinds of reading after they read Twilight; c) check what are their opinions about the movies adapted from the saga; and, through all of it, d) problematize the literacies which the readers make from the canonical and mass literature, their movies and the communication modes given by the internet. To do that, I will use the studies from literacy and multimodality theories to analyze the answers of the readers that were collected through the following form: firstly, I collected 13 commentaries in a forum in the website www.twilightbrasil.net; after that, I elaborated a forum on the official Twilight community on Orkut, which received 86 commentaries until May, 2011; and, as the last step, I randomly distributed questionnaires by e-mail with 12 questions to Twilight readers. I received back14 questionnaires. The discussions about canonical and mass literature were centered mostly on Borelli (1996), Culler (1999), Bloom (2001; 2010), Adorno (2002), Zappone & Wielewicki (2005), Eco (2008); about intertextuality, based on Kristeva (1978) and Koch (2005); I supported the literacy theory on the studies of Kleiman (1995), Cervetti et al (2001), Jordão (2003; 2007), Canclini (2008), Rojo (2009); concerning to the studies of multimodality, I principally used, Clüver (1997; 2007), Kress (2003; 2006), Hutcheon (2006) and Diniz (2003; 2005). After the analysis, I can confirm the research hypothesis, because the canonical literature indeed circulates through mass literature. The participants of this work showed that they were interested in reading the canonical literature and many other titles from mass literature. This fact shows that their reader's identity is being molded by means of the variety of modes where literature can be showed and, furthermore, their literacy is being improved each day, from paper to screens.
