Resumo: It is noticed that in nowadays society, the knowledge and the importance attached to it gain a prominent position and so it becomes important to understand how different social groups give meaning and importance to knowledge considering aspects of the historical, economic and social experienced by such groups. More specifically, we intend to investigate and understand how students of Business Administration mean and give importance to knowledge from their experiences at school, at university and at work. Thus, this research proposes to develop a substantive theory from the precepts and tools presented by the grounded theory from straussian perspective and aimed to investigate what are the meanings attributed to knowledge by students of Business Administration course at universities, public and private, from Maringá-PR. This work is characterized as a qualitative study and the choice of qualitative research is justified mainly because, as Strauss and Corbin (2008), to enable research and analysis about life, about the behavior of individuals and their stories, and of social relations. Thus, the conduct of this work was done by the grounded theory in its interpretive and constructivist side grounded primarily in guidelines and techniques proposed by Strauss and Corbin (2008). So sought to collect, describe, analyze and understand how students of Business Administration understand, give meaning and importance to knowledge. For it could be possible, it was necessary to go through the process of data analysis as well as learn to "hear" what the data say about what he was studying. Thus, the analytical process took shape and consistency and thus concepts, properties and dimensions were being discovered and developed over the work of data analysis. Conducting these analyzes, it was revealed strong evidence that knowledge to students of Business Administration interviewed has character of utility. And this utility related to knowledge was defined as a central category whose other categories of analysis are related. Furthermore, the use of grounded theory allowed to construct a substantive theory capable to explaining the symbolic aspects involving how students of Business Administration mean and give importance to knowledge. Regarding the theory then, some propositions were made as well as a "fundamental hypothesis" was defined to outline the corpus of the substantive theory. This theory emerged from the data and was stated as: "Knowledge in Business Administration: usefulness as a perspective to meaning and value knowledge by students of Business Administration".

This theory emerged from the data and was stated as: "Knowledge in Business Administration: usefulness as a perspective to meaning and value knowledge by students of Business Administration".Percebe-se que na sociedade atual, o conhecimento e a importância atribuída a ele ganham posição de destaque e assim torna-se importante compreender de que maneira diferentes grupos sociais atribuem significado e importância ao conhecimento considerando aspectos relacionados com o contexto histórico, econômico e social vivenciados por tais grupos.
