Distance Education and digital technologies: what's "new"?

Resumo: In this paper we sought to answer the following question: the use of digital technologies in distance educationhas enabled new processes of synchronous and asynchronous communication between individuals (teachers,tutors and other students) and new forms of provision and use of teaching materials? To answer this questionwe analyzed the papers approved subject area AT5 - Innovation TDIC to EAD, the IX Brazilian Congress ofHigher Education Distance (ESUD). This event is a periodic Association of University Network (UniRede),whose theme was the 2012 edition, "Distance Education: Sowing Citizenship." The choice to analyze thesearticles is because being a recent event in which the main "news" area of research could / should be presented.From the analysis reached the conclusion that there are attempts shy of initiatives and use of digitaltechnologies in communication processes and forms of provision and use of materials, but these are notinnovative methodological point of view. These initiatives and attempts do not occur in collective spaces ofdiscussion in a continuous dialogue between teachers, tutors, managers and students in distance educationcourses. Therefore it is necessary that there be more investment in research, experimentation anddevelopment of innovative projects that promote the use of digital technologies in communication processes,usage and availability of teaching materials, based on communicative actions.

Para responder a essa questão,analisamos trabalhos aprovados na área temática AT5 – Inovação em TDIC para EAD do IX CongressoBrasileiro de Ensino Superior a Distância (ESUD). Esse evento é uma realização periódica da AssociaçãoUniversidade em Rede (UniRede), que teve como tema na edição de 2012 a “Educação a Distância:Semeando Cidadania”. A escolha por analisar esses artigos se deve ao fato de ser um evento recente em queas principais “novidades” da área de pesquisa poderiam/deveriam ser apresentadas. A partir da análise,chegamos à conclusão de que há tentativas e iniciativas tímidas de uso das tecnologias digitais nos processosde comunicação e nas formas de disponibilização e uso de material didático, mas estas ainda não sãoinovadoras do ponto de vista metodológico.
