Resumo: | The main goal of this article is to analyze the foundations and social function of the proposal of "education for active citizenship" in the educational field, as a proposal linked to the political perspective of the third route. The discussion is guided by three central concepts: a new democratic state, active civil society and active citizenship. The results show that the proposal of education for active citizenship is part of the strategies of dissemination of ethical and moral values that favor the construction of a new consensus on the behavior patterns appropriate to the new form of sociability necessary for capitalist reproduction, based on the expansion of social participation and greater accountability of individuals for the solution of social problems. |

O objetivo central deste artigo é analisar os fundamentos e a função social da proposta de “educação para a cidadania ativa” no campo educacional, enquanto uma proposta vinculada à perspectiva política da Terceira Via. A discussão é encaminhada com base em três conceitos centrais: novo Estado democrático, sociedade civil ativa e cidadania ativa. Os resultados mostram que a proposta de educação para a cidadania ativa faz parte das estratégias de disseminação de valores éticos e morais que favoreçam a construção de um novo consenso sobre os padrões de comportamento adequados à nova forma de sociabilidade necessária à reprodução capitalista, pautada na ampliação da participação social e na maior responsabilização dos indivíduos pela solução dos problemas sociais.
