Resumo: Some recommendations are provided to the challenges that the evaluation and accreditation processes raise to higher education systems in Latin-American and theCaribbean. Necessary and urgent changes are required in the systems of evaluation and accreditation in the region. We have identified seven challenges: Inequity; formalism and bureaucracy; uncritical acceptance of the ‘World Class Universities’ model; preference of indicators measuring economic growth (often not sustainable) to the detriment of indicators that measure key values such as equity, social harmony and environment sustainability; the challenge of ‘academic corruption’; the challenge of international accreditation; and the challenge of innovation. Some policies and actions are recommended to face adequately these challenges and to carry out a transformation within the evaluation and accreditation processes.

Some policies and actions are recommended to face adequately these challenges and to carry out a transformation within the evaluation and accreditation processes. El objetivo de este artículo es ofrecer algunas recomendaciones a los retos que plantean a la educación superior en América Latina y el Caribe los procesos de de evaluación y acreditación. Se requieren cambios necesarios y urgentes en los sistemas de evaluación y acreditación, sin por eso desconocer que mucho se ha avanzado en este proceso en América Latina y el Caribe (ALC) desde los 90s. Hemos identificado siete retos: el Reto dela Inequidad; el Reto del formalismo y la burocratización en los procesos de evaluación y acreditación; el Reto del mimetismo de las ‘WorldClassUniversities’; el Reto de privilegiar los indicadores productivistas y de crecimiento económico (muchas veces no sostenible) en detrimento de indicadores que midan valores claves para la equidad, la armonía social y la sostenibilidad del medio ambiente; el Reto de la ‘corrupción académica’; el Reto de la acreditación internacional; y el Reto de Innovar.
