Resumo: The article discusses the contributions of the contemporary sociology of the science for the exercise of the scientific citizenship in the modern democracies. We present the rupture points proposed by that sociological approach in relation to classic and contemporary epistemologies that contribute to the diffusion of a conception based in the neutrality and objectivity notions. The text ends that, when incorporating sociological variables in the analysis of the scientific procedure, the sociology of the science favors the establishment of a critical vision on that knowledge form and it can favor the common citizen's participation in the processes of decisions that involve scientific and technological subjects.

Pretende-se apresentar os pontos de ruptura propostos por essa abordagem sociológica em relação às epistemologias clássicas e contemporâneas de orientação lógico-formal-racionalista que contribuem para a difusão de uma concepção fundamentada nas noções de neutralidade e objetividade.
