Resumo: | This study investigated concepts and identification procedures of compound and hidden subjects used by primary school students. The data were collected through a syntactic analysis test and individual interview in a sample of 24 students (2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th grades). Results showed low students performance in the identification of one of the subject types. Students from the 2nd and the 4th grades were better in their identification of the hidden subject; whereas the students from the 4th, 6th and 8th grades had a better performance in the identification of the compound subject. The concepts of subjects has two characteristics: a formal answer which the students learned in the classroom (6th grade) and an intuition answer from other nominal, non-agent, parameter, as subject (8th grade) |

Os dados foram coletados por meio de prova de análise sintática e entrevista individual em uma amostra de 24 alunos (2ª, 4ª, 6ª e 8ª séries). Os resultados demonstraram declínio no desempenho dos alunos na identificação de um dos tipos de sujeito. Na identificação do sujeito oculto, saíram-se melhor os alunos de 2ª e 4ª séries; do sujeito composto, 4ª, 6ª e 8ª séries. Nas séries mais avançadas, o conhecimento da nomenclatura parece ter prejudicado o conteúdo de suas respostas.
