Antropometric standards of physical fitness and health related to the sport of academic UEM/PR

Resumo: The purpose of this study was to collect data on anthropometric and physical fitness related to health of college students of the Universidade Estadual de Maringá. A second purpose was to develop anthropometric and physical fitness norms related to health for the population investigated. 264 males and 460 females participated of this study. Anthropometric measurements of weight (kg) and height (cm) were included in the AAHPERD’S Teste (1980), which show the following measurements and testes: a) triceps and subscapular skinfolds (body composition); b) sit-and-reach and one-minute sit-up teste (musculo skeletal function); 12 minutes run/walk test (cardiorespiratory endurance).The collection of data was carried out in the second semester of 1990, during mornings, afternoons and evenings. The statistical analysis for the norms development used a specific program. The significance level was set at 0,05. The results show that it is possible to develop norms to apply to students with some reason in measurements and tests: motivate students when there appears to be a low level of interest instruction; help the teacher to assess students’ performance; help students to evaluate their own performances, and others. Norms should be reviewed every three to five years.

Um segundo propósito foi desenvolver normas antropométricas e de aptidão física relacionadas à saúde. Foram mensurados 264 acadêmicos do sexo masculino e 460 do sexo feminino. Medidas antropométricas de peso (Kg) e estatura (cm) foram incluídas na Bateria de Testes da AAHPERD (1980), que apresenta as seguintes medidas e testes: a) dobras cutâneas da região triciptal e subescapular (composição corporal); b) Flexibilidade lombar – sentar e alcançar) e abdominal um minuto (função músculo-esquelética); c) 12 minutos corrida/caminhada (resistência cardiorrespiratória). A coleta de dados foi realizada no segundo semestre de 1990, nos períodos: matutino, vespertino e noturno. A análise estatística para o desenvolvimento das normas foi elaborada através de um programa específico para este fim. O nível de significância foi de 0,05. Os resultados deste estudo indicam que é possível desenvolver normas para empregar em universitários com algumas razões para utilização em medidas e testes: motivar os estudantes quando apresentarem um padrão de interesse baixo para a instrução; auxiliar o professor e avaliar o desempenho dos estudantes; ajudar os estudantes a avaliarem o seu próprio desempenho, e outras mais.
