Resumo: The aim of the study was to describe how coaches perceive their own professional development in surf and interpret these perceptions according to the specialized literature. A qualitative study was conducted with multiple case studies involving eleven competent coaches of young surfers in Florianópolis, Brazil. Data were collected from structured interviews and semi-structured. For data analysis we used the technique of content analysis. The results show that the coaches give importance to various informal sources of development. The sharing of knowledge, problem solving and observation of other coaches are essential in the construction of professional knowledge. It is concluded that professionals learn from spontaneous engagement in the specific field of surfing and a process of socialization within a socio-cultural context of this sport.

Department of Physical Education - State University of Maringá (UEM), Maringá-PR, Brazil2012-09-30info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionQualitative researchEstudo qualitativoapplication/pdfapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/RevEducFis/article/view/15320Journal of Physical Education; Vol 23 No 3 (2012); 431-442Journal of Physical Education; Vol. 23 Núm. 3 (2012); 431-442Journal of Physical Education; v. 23 n. 3 (2012); 431-4422448-2455reponame:Journal of Physical Education (Maringá)instname:Universidade Estadual de Maringá (UEM)instacron:UEMporhttps://periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/RevEducFis/article/view/15320/10464https://periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/RevEducFis/article/view/15320/751375141450Ramos, ValmorBrasil, Vinicius ZeilmannGoda, Ciroinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2023-01-10T15:38:14Zoai:periodicos.uem.br/ojs:article/15320Revistahttp://periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/RevEducFis/indexPUBhttps://old.scielo.br/oai/scielo-oai.php||revdef@uem.br2448-24552448-2455opendoar:2023-01-10T15:38:14Journal of Physical Education (Maringá) - Universidade Estadual de Maringá (UEM)false
