Resumo: Students' postural vices were diagnosed. Observations were carried out in private and public schools in Maringá with 2.413 children in the 5th and 8th classes in the morning period during twenty minutes in each classroom. The research is of the descriptive kind, and the results were obtained through studies with both sexes. The body alignment of children was observed while they were standing, in profile, head-on and backwards according to the "New York Postural Test" (Rocha, 1986), Literature review makes references to facts and aspects connected with postural deviations and shows that, few articles were published about this subject. Statistical analysis about postural data, was performed through the Bilateral Test for difference between proportion (Spiegel, 1978). A significative difference was observed with one postural deviation at private schools and more than one postural deviation at public schools. We are influenced by bad posture, excessive physical growth, little stimulus in classroom, and lack of knowledge on how to sit and lay properly.

Foram realizadas observações nas turmas de da 5ª à 8ª série do período diurno durante vinte minutos, em cada sala de aula, num total de 2.413 crianças. A pesquisa é do tipo descritiva, e os resultados obtidos através de estudos realizados em ambos os sexos. Durante a realização do teste, foi avaliado o alinhamento corporal, na posição em pé, de frente, perfil e costa, conforme preconiza o NEW YORK POSTURAL TESTE (Rocha, 1986). A revisão da literatura refere-se aos fatores e aspectos relacionados com os desvios posturais, assunto sobre o qual poucos artigos têm sido publicados. Foi feita a análise estatística dos dados posturais através do Teste Bilateral para diferença entre proporções (Spiegel, 1978). Observamos diferença significativa, com ocorrência de um desvio postural para a rede particular e mais de um desvio para a rede estadual.
